Allocations

United Way of Greater Battle Creek is a community leader – an organization that is essential to improving the health and vitality of the Battle Creek area. The generous, undesignated gifts from donors allow United Way to not only invest in essential services, but also to invest in comprehensive and innovative approaches to some of our community’s toughest problems.

Community Solutions Fund Allocations

Through the allocation process 50 programs operated by 35 nonprofit organizations and agencies are being funded by United Way during the ’09-’10 year.
Trained volunteers examine all funding requests in detail and make final recommendations to the volunteer Board of Directors.
All programs are carefully monitored to ensure they meet stated goals.
In June 2009, United Way’s board of directors voted to adopt the national strategic investment model of Advancing the Common Good.  Under this new model programs are funded in three priority areas, Education (literacy, education, child development), Income (nurturing youth, strengthening families, preventing teen pregnancy, creating opportunities for the disabled) and Health (fulfillment of basic needs such as food, clothing and health care).
