Impact Matters

 What's Impact?

Dear Donor:

People donate to charity because they want to make a difference.
But how do we know their contributions actually do just that - make
a difference?  At United Way of Greater Battle Creek, we know what
donor dollars are achieving because we measure results of funded
programs.  We call "making a difference," "making an impact," and
we measure how much impact United Way has in the greater
Battle Creek area each year.

What is impact?
As stated above, Impact is very simply "making a difference" in a
community.  United Way of America encourages all local United
Ways to use an "impact model".  This means United Ways
across the nation are changing from traditional fundraising
organizations supporting the needs of human service agencies to
organizations that work to identify and address cirtical concerns of
the entire community.  In Battle Creek, we moved to an "impact
model" in 1999, and one result of that shift was funding programs
instead of agencies.  We now work with volunteers and local
leaders t determine what issues to address and then fund programs
that help address those issues and bring about community change.
