| 2009-11-03 - Kellogg Company shatters all expectations with $3.6 million campaign contribution |
BATTLE CREEK (November 3, 2009) – Kellogg Company announced today, thanks to the generosity of their Battle Creek-based employees and retirees, they will be making a record contribution of $3.6 million to United Way of Greater Battle Creek. In addition to the financial contribution, nearly 1,900 Kellogg employees participated in Days of Caring service projects since June.
The great news was delivered by Kellogg Company’s United Way campaign leadership team during a check presentation at the Food Bank of South Central Michigan, one of United Way of Greater Battle Creek’s 35 program delivery partners.
"I am very proud of the way that Kellogg people again stepped up to support this campaign," said David Mackay, Kellogg Company President and CEO. "These are difficult times for too many children and families in our community, and broad support for United Way has never been more critical."
The $3.6 million contribution from Kellogg Company pushed United Way of Greater Battle Creek past the 80% mark in attaining the community campaign goal of $5 million this year.
"We were admittedly cautious when we set this year’s campaign goal," said Michael ‘Mac’ McCullough, 2009 campaign co-chair and general manager and executive editor of the Battle Creek Enquirer. "We know the need is great, but it’s sometimes difficult to judge the reaction of the community when so many have been experiencing changes in their own lives. We are so grateful for the leadership that Kellogg continues to provide to our community."
"Since the beginning of the campaign, we knew that participation was going to be the key to our success," said Todd McDonald, campaign co-chair and group vice president & equity partner, CSM Group. "I believe that what Kellogg Company has done this year should be an example to us all. When more individuals give at whatever level they are able, it adds up to success for our community. I hope the rest of the community uses this success as a platform for their campaign within their own workplace. When we combine our resources, it has a tremendous impact on our community."
Kellogg’s Corporate Citizenship Fund, the charitable arm of Kellogg, matches all employee and retiree pledges dollar-for-dollar. This year’s campaign contribution was 20% more than goal, and $1 million has been added to the company’s campaign in three years. In September, Kellogg brought in Olympic Gold Medalist figure skater and 2008 Dancing with the Stars champion, Kristi Yamaguchi, to make a special appearance at the community kickoff.
"Kellogg Company is an amazing supporter of United Way locally, as well as across the country," said Chris Sargent, president and chief professional officer, United Way of Greater Battle Creek. "This past spring they were, very deservedly, awarded three highly-prestigious Summit Awards by United Way Worldwide, in recognition of their philanthropic efforts. Kellogg was one of five companies nationally recognized for its exceptional community efforts."
